King Clancy Memorial Trophy

Mikael Backlund of the Calgary Flames was named the recipient of the King Clancy Trophy, presented to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice while making humanitarian contributions to his community. Backlund raised more then $400,000 to support the ALS Society of Alberta in honour of his mother-in-law and in support of Chris Snow, the Flames' assistant general manager. He also supports The Kids Cancer Care, Special Olympics Calgary and Parachutes for Pets, which allows children in foster care to keep their pets while transitioning into care. Backlund receives $25,000 to benefit a charity of his choice.
